a pop blog without a fag's commentary

i've searched multiple times to find a pop music blog dedicated to listing and perhaps commenting on the billboard charts but the only ones i can find are written by gay guys that are so in love with acting and portraying gay that they're sometimes too much to read, or they're written by dumb women whose only goal is to tell the readers how cool and awesome this artist is that no one knows about so they can pretend they're cool,

i don't really like most pop music or rap(which seems to dominate the charts so much these days), but i've got a real interest in pop culture and knowing what's selling or not

joy division to interpol to the postal service

also, thinking about these joy division bands made me think of death cab for cutie but i think they're nerd rock but i don't remember, i just remember that their name is fucking stupid and they should be exterminated for it,

then just now i was trying to think of the joy division ripoff bands and i couldn't remember interpol and i instead thought of the postal service, and i just found them on youtube and i got a little mad at how irritating this band is, especially the singer,

and i wonder "who the fuck listens to this garbage?"

because i understand why people listen to pop - because it's fun, rap - because they think it's cool and hard, rock - because it can move you,

but nerd rock like the postal service seems like music that people listen to or claim to listen to because they want to seem unique or hip, and i can't imagine anyone but annoying nerds or bitter ugly girls liking it,

it's like that damn movie, "garden state," opened up this can of worms of bad nerd music to the public and somehow there are enough idiots that buy into the uniqueness of it all

bands that want to be joy division or bauhaus

i saw the film, "control," the other night and so i decided to revisit some joy division videos on youtube which brought me to some bands that are inspired by joy division but i hadn't actually heard before(except the killers):

the killers - their cover closes out the ending credits and i was like "wtf?"
why does this annoying band have anything to do with a biopic about ian curtis?
i actually read some stupid article in spin magazine a few years ago where the lead singer was going on and on about how their goal was to be the biggest band on the planet......good luck, dork,
this dude sings in such a pretentious way it's beyond obnoxious,
but apparently their name comes from a fake band in a new order video so they're qualified to be on the "control" soundtrack

interpol - i listened to about 15 seconds of their most viewed video on youtube and turned that crap off, specifically because the singer sucks

she wants revenge - this music actually sounded dark and i kind of liked it, not enough to actually listen to much of it, but i remember my friend telling me awhile ago that this band is just a blatant ripoff of interpol(who i guess was first and is more successful), but it's not annoying like interpol and they don't sound cheery or nerdy like them

ashlee simpson - outta my head and timbaland

i was reading some fag's blog and he posted a link for the video of her new song so i clicked on it to see how nauseous it would make me,
and i actually liked the song, so i've DLed it and looked at a few of her older videos but i'm not into anything else she's done,
that whole SNL fiasco from a few years ago always had me thinking she's just a packaged/processed bubblegum popstar, not to mention the nosejob which is about the most insecure thing a person could ever do,

but this song is so catchy, has a good beat, uses some good synths,
and then i see it's co-written by timbaland,

now, there's no denying that in the past few years this guy has been behind some really infectious and great pop songs, but i don't really think he's ever written any original music before,

i've come to the conclusion that all of his songs implement or are constructed of songs from the 80s...not the beats really, but the melodies and/or synth rhythm parts,

everyone knows he was accused of ripping off some swedish midi musician and flippantly brushing it off as if everyone uses everyone else's stuff,
so it's not like this is some shocking news,

but i wanted to write a blog about it, well, i was actually just writing this about the ashlee simpson song but then i ran off into this timbaland crap that's been agitating me for awhile,

i read a little about nelly furtado's last album, "loose," and she has stated that her inspiration was 80s music like the eurythmics, and that nelly furtado album and plethora of hit singles is what really blasted timbaland into the stratosphere,
so i really kind of believe that he,
and whoever he's collaborating with at the moment, just listen to 80s songs and pick parts they like,
then tweak them enough that they're not completely recognizable, slap some minimal beats under the various parts and basically have a song,
and/or he takes an instantly recognizable synth riff like salt n peppa's "push it" and slips it under the main music so you don't really know it's there until someone points it out like in "the way i are,"

anyway,
it pisses me off
